Duh-nuh - Lawn Fawn / Gummiapan birthday card

First of all - I've got to say that I'm really pleased with how this card turned out. Especially since it wasn't meant to look like this when I first started. This card was made from a mistake...!

As I was creating the background for the Happy Hippos Shaker card, I didn't like how the colors turned out. I found it to be a little too dark to be a sky background. So I put it aside and started over with some lighter colors.

Then, when I was about to create this shark-card, I was initially inspired by this card from the talented Yainea. But as I started to play,  I got the idea to switch the card fronts and make the intended front the inside instead. And now - I'm totally glad I did!

The "new" card front is just some washitape and the polaroid frame die from Gummiapan, paired with the shark fin and sentiment from the Lawn Fawn stamp set "Duh-nuh". The waves were made using the wave accent die from Lawn Fawn.

The inside is made of Distress Oxides and some Distress ink in tumbled glass, broken china and faded jeans. See now why I thought it was too dark for a sky?!! So to make it an underwater scene, I added a spritz of water to make the colors oxidize. The corals, sea weed and little fish are from the "mermaid for you" stamp set - also from Lawn Fawn - and they were stamped directly onto the distress background, using Versafine black ink.

And the shark is, of course, also from the duh-nuh set. Colored in copic sketch markers: C5-3-1 and highlights with a white gel pen. And if you can spot the discoloration on the shark's forehead - that was also a mistake as I dropped one of my ink blending tools on the shark while putting them away from another project... Oh well!

And to avoid the messiness of embossing on the polaroid frame - I just stamped the word "jawsome" (from the duh-nuh set) in black versafine ink and then went over the letters with a clear sakura glaze pen. Just to get some dimension. The bubbles are also enhanced with some glossy accents.

Thank you so much for stopping by. Hope you have a "fintastic" day! (yeah - another "pun intended")

Gustav 2 - MFT Happy Hippos Shaker card

Aaand - I'm back with another birthday card! Can't get enough of those, can we? And also - we have a lot of birthdays in August amongst friends and family, so the creation part of me is always thinking about card themes and how to combine stamp sets and so on this time of year.

As much as I love the Adorable Elephants from MFT, I must say that the new Happy Hippos also qualify to a spot on the top of my favorite stamp-set list...! They are just so cute - and a big thank you to Scrapfabriken in Sweden who carry the new MFT stamps and dies!

So on to the specific, nerdy stuff:
The background was made using a mixture of Distress Inks and Oxides. The clouds were made using the wonderful Stitched Cloud dies from Lawn Fawn. I added the clouds' faces using stamps from Lawn Fawn's Plane and simple stamp set and for the cheeks I used Distress Oxide ink in Worn Lipstick.

The balloon shaker part is a die set from MFT (My favorite things). The little pouch that fits the balloon die is sold separately, I think. The hippo and the birds are from the "Happy Hippos" stamp set - also from MFT. The pink balloon I borrowed from a Mama Elephant stamp set called "Spread Happiness".

All the critters are colored in with Copic Sketch Markers:
Hippo: C5-3-1, R20
Hat and Bowtie: BG09, BG57, BG13 and B91
Birds: Y02-08-19, YG23
Balloon: RV25-23, R20

At the bottom I used some striped washi tape and the letters to spell out my nephew's name "Gustav" were die cut with Lawn Fawn letter dies using some teal card stock. Eyes on the critters were enhanced by using some Nuvo Drops in "Ebony black" and of course there are some details with Glossy Accents and Wink of Stella as well. Wouldn't be the same without it!

Vilma 5! Lawn Fawn sea critters and pop-up

Today's card was made for a birthday girl who loves to swim and play in the water. So what better suitable than some aquatic critters from Lawn Fawn?!

I made the card as a pop-up card - using the Lawn Fawn hillside pop-up dies with the wave die overlay - inked up with distress oxides and -inks. All critters were colored with my copic sketch markers and highlights were made using a white gel pen and my wink of stella glitter pen.

To spell out hew name on the front of the card, and also to make the number "5" on the inside, I dusted off an old alphabet die from quickutz. Haven't used it for ages, but I got the idea that I wanted to make her name in an ombre fashion with my comics, and I think it turned out really good!!

Thank you for visiting! Sea you again soon (pun intended)! :-)
